Care Info

Wondering how to care for your BTD earrings?

Polymer clay is surprisingly easy to take care of!ย

The polymer clay itself and the stainless steel components are completely waterproof. This means for the most part- you can wash and shower in your earrings!

How should I store polymer clay earrings?

I recommend giving them space in some way. What I mean is- don't squash them into a bag, purse, or pocket. The steel hooks may scratch against the clay of another earring. Polymer clay is flexible, but if bent against the metalย hoops andย rings, it could crack. This won't happen in normal use, but if too much pressure is applied it may.

What should I do to clean my earrings?

If your polymer clay becomes dirty, I recommend washing after you remove them for the day in warm soapy water or using a baby wipe. You wouldn't think they would get dirty, but sometimes earrings pick up makeup as they rest against the face. (white, I'm looking at you!) Other times they may be left in a purse and get dirty there. Try not to leave the makeup on too long or it may be difficult to remove.
In extreme cases (or when you leave the residue on too long) you can use acetone and a q-tip to remove stubborn stains. Use this WITH CAUTION because the acetone will actually dissolve the clay. A slight pressure to remove a stain should be fine but that's all!

Sometimes you shouldn't wash your clay earrings.

There are a FEW occasions where I caution against washing your earrings. Sometimes I use a silver finish or a delicate pastel shading which will come off if washed. If that's the case, I will make a note in the listing for you. If you can't remember please shoot me a message, I will be happy to let you know.

Can I swim with polymer clay earrings?

If you are wondering if you can swim withย your earrings in- the shortย answer is yes! But I would suggest only the studs. Dangles may get caught on something as you swim and damage the ear. This goes for any dangle earring, not just polymer clay!
